Surly Grind Core

This 6.0% ABV espresso milk stout is from the Surly Brewing Company of Brooklyn Center (and now Minneapolis), Minnesota. Their main brewery, and tasting room, has now switched to Minneapolis, but they are now brewing small batches at the original Brooklyn Center brewery. This is one of those small batch releases.

The beer pours black, with a tall, foaming head of dark tan. The aroma is a blast of coffee aromas, deep and rich, with some other dark roasted malt notes coming through, a bit of char, and dark chocolate. The taste follows the aromas, lots of coffee and dark chocolate. There is sweetness, but the finish is fairly bitter, and mostly dry. The beer drinks very smooth. This is a good one!
