Schell's Munich-Style Dunkel

This is a German style dunkel beer made with flash frozen German Hallertau Mittelfruh hops. It is from the August Schell Brewery of New Ulm, Minnesota. They are the second oldest family owned brewery in the United States (over 150 years and counting). This was part of their winter sampler pack, the Peacock Pack.

The beer pours a dark amber, nearing brown, but with a gem-like gleam. There is a short head of light tan foam. The aroma is well-toasted malt, plum fruit, lighter caramel, and a very light nuttiness. The taste follows the aromas, hitting the same notes, malty, with fruit, then caramel, then light nut notes. There is sweetness, but with a mostly dry finish, and light bitterness. The beer drinks easy, with moderate carbonation.
