Schell's German-Style Porter

This is a German-style porter made with cacao nibs, and using flash-frozen German Tettnang hops. It is from the August Schell Brewery of New Ulm, Minnesota. They are the second oldest family owned brewery in the United States (over 150 years and counting). This was part of their winter sampler pack, the Peacock Pack.

The beer pours a very dark brown and dark ruby, appearing nearly black. There is an inch of tan head. The aroma is dark roasted malt, light char, with a a fruity brightness. The taste follows the aromas, dark roasted malt, char, some chocolate, with the tang of dark fruits. It is semi-dry, with a light bitterness. The beer drinks very easy, with a medium body. This is solid and enjoyable.
