Lagunitas "Lag" Lagunator Lager

This 7.9% ABV lager is from the Lagunitas Brewing Company of Petaluma, California (and now with a brewery in Chicago, Illinois).

The beer pours a very dark copper and amber in color. There is over an inch of very light tan foamy head. The aroma is toasted caramel malt, citrus, and light floral hibiscus. The taste follows the aromas, rich malt both caramel and toasted, citrus, fruit, light floral, with a quite bitter finish. There is sweetness, but the finish is dry. The beer drinks smooth, with soft, tingling carbonation. This isn't like any lager I've ever had, but it sure is damn tasty. It seems more like a Surly Furious type of beer.
