Madhouse Freedom Toast Bourbon Barrel Aged Wee Heavy

The Madhouse Brewing Company originated in Newton, Iowa, and now have a new location in Des Moines. This takes their bourbon barrel aged Scotch ale and adds in cinnamon, maple syrup, and vanilla. This 2019 vintage is 13.5% ABV.

The beer pours black in appearance with a brown head of foam. The aroma is French toast for real, maple, vanilla, cinnamon, sweet, with some dark malt notes and a bit of bourbon. In the taste the sweetness blasts out, as does the cinnamon, at first taste unbalanced, and then, all of a sudden, you are actually eating French toast. There are a lot of beers with flavorings that say that they taste like something, but this for real tastes like French toast.
