Schell's Snowstorm 2018 Speciale Belge

This is the 2018 winter seasonal offering from the August Schell Brewing Company of New Ulm, Minnesota. They were established in 1860 and they are the second oldest family owned brewery in the United States, behind Yuengeling. Every winter they release Snowstorm, featuring a different style of beer every year. This year it is a 7.56% ABV Belgian-style ale.

The beer pours a very dark amber, orange and brown. There is a half-inch of khaki head. The aroma is sweet, fruity, with lots of Belgian yeast esters, cloves and bananas. The taste follows the aromas, there is some well toasted and roasted malt, some sweetness, fruitiness, and a lot of yeast notes. The finish is dry and moderately bitter. The beer drinks easy, medium-bodied, with just the right amount of carbonation to be refreshing without being over carbed.
