Firestone Walker Sucaba

Here is the 2018 vintage of this 12.5% ABV barrel-aged barleywine  from Firestone Walker Brewing Company of Paso Robles, California.

The beer pours a very dark brown and dark ruby. There is a short head of khaki foam. The aroma is sweet, brown sugar, caramel, bourbon, toffee. The taste follows the aromas, hitting the same notes, with the sweetness tempered by some oak astringency. The beer has a full, round, smooth body. There is a moderate bitterness on the finish to counter the sweetness. This is tasty and well done.
