Founders Curmudgeon's Better Half

This 12.7% ABV old ale brewed with molasses and aged in maple syrup bourbon barrels is from the Founders Brewing Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan. The base beer is their Curmudgeon Old Ale

The beer pours a dark amber and brown. There is a half-inch of light tan head. The aroma is maple, bourbon, oak, sweet, malty caramel, with a fruity tang. The taste follows the aromas, very sweet, molasses, maple syrup and caramel, with just enough oak to make it not cloying. The beer drinks very soft, with mild carbonation. There is absolutely no alcohol heat despite the 12.7% ABV. This is quite tasty, but almost too sweet.
