Bell's Bourbon Barrel Aged Expedition Stout

Bell's Brewery in Comstock, Michigan has taken their Expedition Stout, a Russian Imperial Stout, and aged it in bourbon barrels. This beer is 13.4% ABV.

The beer pours a deep, oily black, with a short head of dark tan foam. The aroma is big, sweet, molasses, bourbon, with some dark chocolate and char. The taste follows the aromas, big, rich, deep, sweet, molasses, nearly burnt caramel, vanilla, dark chocolate, char, with light mocha. There is a moderate bitterness on the end, with some oaky astringency. The beer drinks very smooth and soft.
