Samuel Smith's Nut Brown Ale

This classic brown ale is from the Samuel Smith Old Brewery Tadcaster in Yorkshire, England. It is fermented in old stone squares.

The beer pours medium brown with a bit of dark amber. There is a relatively short head of light tan foam. The aroma is sweet caramel malt, with a bright fruity plum note over it. The taste follows the aromas, caramel, a bit nutty, with plum fruit. There is sweetness, but a mostly dry finish, with moderate grassy bitterness. The beer has a medium body with tingling carbonation. There is not much roast on the malt here, it more like a “dark” pale ale.
