Samuel Adams Sam '76

The Samuel Adams line of beers are from the Boston Brewing Company of Boston, Massachusetts. This new release is a 4.7% ABV merger of a lager and an ale.

The beer pours a lightly hazed dark golden in color. There is an inch of white, foaming head, not particularly long lasting. The aroma is citrus, toasted grain, straw, some lager funk, along with light tropical fruit notes in the background. The taste follows the aromas, hitting the same notes, this is a full-flavored lager meeting a nice, fruity, American pale ale. It drinks smooth and refreshing, with a “just right” moderate carbonation. I really liked this and am definitely going to pick up some more; it's a good, flavorful crusher.

  1. What the heck does that mean? A mix between a lager and an ale?

    1. I don't know, I wondered the same thing. I'm just telling you what the can says. I don't know the brewing process. The can would indicate that they wanted to combine flavor and sensory aspects of both lagers and ales.
