The beer pours black in appearance,
very dark brown and ruby if held to the light. There is a tall,
thick, foaming head of tan. The aroma is deep fruit, over dark
roasted malt with light char and anise. The taste follows the aromas,
adding in some dark chocolate to the dark fruit, a touch of pine.
There is some sweetness, but the finish is mostly dry, and fairly
bitter. The beer drinks elegantly smooth. The balance here between
the hops and the dark malts is exquisite. This is a really enjoyable
black IPA.
