Vanderghinste Oud Bruin

This is a 5.5% ABV Flanders sour ale from the Brouwerij Bockor in Bellegem, Belgium. It blends a traditionally-brewed Flanders red ale with 18 month old lambic sour beer.

The beer pours a deep brown and ruby in color. It has a tall head of light tan foam, with just a touch of creaminess. The aroma is tart, caramel, almost balsamic, woody, tart dark fruits, cherries. The taste follows directly upon the aromas, coming in waves; first tart, then caramel, then wood, then fruit, then tart again. It finishes dry, leaving an energetic, almost effervescent tartness in the mouth, at the back of the throat, and into the sinuses. It has a smooth, subtle, and fine carbonation. This is absolutely excellent.
