New Holland The Poet

This 5.2% ABV oatmeal stout is from the New Holland Brewing Company of Holland, Michigan. It uses pale ale, Munich, crystal and chocolate malts, along with Glacier and Nugget hops.

The beer pours black in appearance, just an edge of very dark brown if held to the light. There is an inch of thick and creamy cappuccino colored foamy head. It leaves some lacing down the glass. The aroma is dark roasted malts, light char, dark fruit, raisins, a bit of mocha. The taste follows the aromas, but is even more intense, much more dark roasted malt and char, the dark fruits are there, and the mocha flavors are kicked up a notch too. The finish is dry and moderately bitter. It drinks smooth and creamy, with a tingling carbonation. A very solid oatmeal stout.
