Central Waters Slainte Scottish Style Ale

This beer is from Central Waters Brewing Company of Amherst, Wisconsin. "Slainte" is a Gaelic word that translates to "health" and is commonly used as a drinking toast in Scotland and Ireland. 

The beer pours mahogany in color, with deep ruby when held to the light. There is a relatively short head of light tan foam. The aroma is very faint, hard to get much, but malty is what is there, a dark caramel malt, roasted without heading into any stout or porter notes. The taste is intensely malty, dark caramel, very nutty, a good roastiness without getting any coffee or char. There is a bit of a mineral tang on the end. There is an undercurrent of fruitiness that for some reason just doesn’t work right, as if it were just on the edge of infection.
