Three Floyds Blackheart

Three Floyds Brewing Company is out of Munster, Indiana.  This 8.0% ABV beer is an English-style India Pale Ale seasonal release. It is made with all English ingredients (probably not the water) and aged on toasted oak. The bottle art is a collaboration with Black Heart Tattoo from San Francisco,California.

The beer pours copper colored. There is an inch of thick, somewhat creamy off-white foam. The aroma is a duel of sweet malt, caramel and plums, with a grassy and citrusy hoppiness. There is some oak. The taste is citrusy, tangy, malty, very woody, astringent, dry, and quite bitter. The oak aging takes the English IPA style and ratchets it up a few notches.
