"Schaefer is the one beer to have when you're having more than one." This was the old Schaefer jingle line that originated in 1961. The beer was brewed by F. & M. Schaefer Company from 1842 on. This is yet another label now owned by Pabst, who bought it from Stroh's in 1999, who bought the original company in 1981.
The beer pours an extremely pale and washed out yellow golden in color. There is a short and short-lived head of white foam. The aroma is slightly sweet grain, metallic, slightly funky. The taste is old cooked grain and some grass. It is very refreshingly carbonated. The regular Schaefer is much better. This isn't terrible for a macro American adjunct light lager, but that only goes as far as it goes (which isn't far). Like most beers of this genre, it is better straight from the can.
For the past decade Schaefer has not been sold in Louisiana, only Schaefer Light.
ReplyDeleteIt is frustrating when a brewery makes several beers, but you can only get one where you live. The distribution is so strange sometimes.
