The Flat Earth Brewing Company is in St. Paul, Minnesota. This beer is 5.5% ABV and is named after a mysterious element that supposedly allows UFO's to fly. This is a California Common (steam) style of lager. In the days before refrigeration, lagers out West had to be allowed to ferment at higher temperatures, resulting in this style.
The beer pours a perfect, clear, bronze/copper in color. There is an inch of thick, creamy, foamy head, white to just off-white in color. The aroma is malty, semi-sweet, roasted, toasted, and a touch nutty. There is a yeasty element in the aroma that gives a fruit-like tartness. The taste is richly malty and yeast, following the aromas quite directly. The finish is a quiet battle between sweetness from malt and tartness from yeast, and very dry. It is fully and crisply carbonated. This is quite good, just a tad too yeasty for my taste.
