Three Floyds Alpha Klaus Christmas Porter

The Three Floyds Brewing Company is in Munster, Indiana. Many of their beers are highly coveted by beer enthusiasts. The motto on their bottle? "It's Not Normal." This 6.0% ABV Christmas Porter is brewed with English chocolate malt, Mexican sugar and "tons of strange American hops." It's not Christmas, but I'm going to open this like a present.

The beer pours blacker than the inside of a deep cave on a moonless night. There is a tall, thick head of light brown foam. The aroma is sweet, milky, mocha, with that slight metallic coffee tang of a porter. The taste follows the aromas, deep and dark roasted malt, mocha, coffee, almost a bit of char, sweet, yet with a strong coffee and pure dark cocoa bitter finish. It drinks creamy, smooth and full-bodied. It has enough carbonation to tingle the tongue. This would be way too sweet, but for the obvious and bittering addition of lots of hops. Prepare to have your Christmas stockings blown off.
