Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Cafe de Olla Stout

This is a variant on the 2019 vintage of Goose Island's Bourbon County Brand Stout. It is a 13.5% ABV stout aged in bourbon barrels with coffee, cassia bark, orange peel, and panela sugar.  Cassia bark is also called Chinese Cinnamon and has a similar flavor.

The beer pours coal black with a relatively short head of dark brown foam. The aroma is dark roasted malts, coffee, fruit, sweet, tangy, with a bit of oaky wood. The taste is sweet, dark, rich, tangy, fruity, coffee, spices, with the cinnamon-like flavor of the cassia coming through. It is almost like a less-sweet, somewhat bitter cola with dark roasted flavors. The beer is warming, and drinks smooth, with a soft, full body.
