Western Standard Saloon Lager

This 5.2% ABV beer is described on the bottle as “A clean pre-prohibition style lager graced with beer aged in High West bourbon barrels.” It is from  the Western Standard Brewing Company of San Diego, California, which I believe is actually Ballast Point.

The beer pours a clear dark golden. There is a half-inch of white foamy head, on the fizzy side. The aroma is light bourbon, vanilla, light oak, with some malty lager beneath. All of the aromas are present in the taste, blended together in good balance. There is sweetness and bourbon notes, but also a lager finish. The beer drinks on the crisp side, refreshing, with a body that is easy to drink, but enough to hold up the flavors here.
