Spaten Optimator

This 7.6% ABV doppelbock is from the Spaten brewery of Munich, Germany. 

The beer pours a very dark brown with hints of ruby. There is a short lived light tan head. The aroma is sweet, dark roasted malt, light char and star anise, almost a root beer note. The taste is sweet, dark roasted malt, well toasted pastry, darkened caramel. Although sweet, the finish is mostly dry, with a light bitterness. The beer drinks with a tingling carbonation, yet smooth.
