This 5.6% ABV porter is from the Sierra Nevada Brewing Company of Chico, California and now Mills River, North Carolina.
The beer pours a very dark chestnut brown and ruby, nearing black in appearance. There is a half-inch of light beige head. The aroma is dark roasted malts, coffee, a bit of char, some dark chocolate. The taste hits the same notes as the aromas, dark roasted malt, mocha, pleasant char, bittersweet dark chocolate. The beer drinks easy, smooth, but with just enough body to hold up all those flavors and not come off as watery. The finish is moderately bitter and dry. There is a tingle of carbonation. Sierra Nevada is strong in making good representations of nearly every style they brew, and their porter is no exception.
