The beer pours a medium dark brown, burnt orange, with tints
of garnet. There is a short and not long lasting head of light tan. The aroma
is tangy fruit, citrus, orange and tangerine, with an underlying sweetness. The
taste follows the aromas, tangy citrus fruits, particularly orange, with notes
of darkened sugar underneath, along with roasted malts. Some dark stone fruits
come through. The tangy and the sweet meet in near perfect harmony. The beer
drinks smooth and round, dry, almost woody note, with a light bitterness. This
is not the type of barley wine that comes out and hits you over the head, but
it is subtle, solid, and very good. I’d drink this any day.
