This double IPA from the Ballast Point Brewing Company of San Diego, California comes in at a whopping 10.0% ABV.
The beer pours a gleaming copper in color. There is about an
inch of just off white head. The aroma is citrusy, loads of oranges and peels,
tangy, zesty, a bit pithy, over ample caramel malt. The taste follows the
aromas precisely, hitting all the same notes. The finish is fairly bitter, but
the big, fairly sweet malt reduces its effect. It has a nice round and soft
mouthfeel, with a subtle bite of carbonation at the end. This is a
quintessential DIPA of the big citrus/orange and caramel style (not a tropical
fruit and/or dank bomb style). The high ABV is wonderfully hidden in this big delicious beer.
