This bourbon barrel aged stout with coffee added is from Central Waters Brewing Company of Amherst, Wisconsin. It is part of their Brewer's Reserve series. It has had infection problems, so I hope this is good.
The beer pours solid black in color, even when held to the light. There is over an inch of thick and foamy tan head. The aroma is sweet, almost like maple syrup, with coffee, chocolate, light char, a hint of bourbon, and a touch of vanilla. The smell is heavenly. The taste follows the aromas, but is not as good as them. There is a sour tang left at the back of the throat (just a hint of vomit sourness too). The aroma tells me why this is so popular, the sour note in the taste tells me why the brewer rues their constant infection trouble in this. I would have to say this is a touch infected. Too bad, that aroma had me so excited.
There has been a recall on this due to the infection. They pulled all bottles from the shelves a few weeks ago.
