Anchorage Brewing Bitter Monk

The bottle describes this beer as a Belgian-style Double IPA with Brettanomyces that is aged in French oak Chardonnay barrels. It is 9.0% ABV and 100 IBU's and comes from the Anchorage Brewing Company of Anchorage, Alaska.

The beer pours a touch hazy, but pure golden in color. There is a tall foamy white head. The aroma is funky, floral, tropical fruits and banana, full, ripe, rounded. The taste follows the aromas quite directly, adding a very bitter and quite dry finish. It has a fine, tingling, almost champagne-like carbonation. It is medium-bodied and hard to believe it is 9.0% ABV. It does have a chardonnay like quality to it, the barrels really imparted a lot of flavor that merged well with the hops.
