Schnee Bock

This is a 7.9% ABV bock beer from the Schlossbrauerei of Au-Hallertau, Germany. You may recognize that as the region with the eponymous hop. This is a family owned brewery since 1590! Now that is a long time. "Schnee" means "snow" and this is a winter bock.

The beer pours a very dark mahogany, with ruby when held to the light. It has a short, somewhat creamy, light tan head. The aroma is malty, roasted, caramel, and toffee. The taste is smooth and malty, roasted malts, some light coffee, lots of caramel and toffee, with just enough bitterness to not let the sweetness get too intense. It is medium to nearly full bodied, with a tingle of carbonation. This is like drinking a fine toffee caramel.
