Schell's Goosetown

The August Schell Brewing Company is in New Ulm, Minnesota and have been brewing since 1860. The beer is a 5.2% ABV gose-style beer. Gose is a traditional German style of beer made with coriander and salt. Goosetown is named after a neighborhood located across the tracks and down by the Minnesota River in New Ulm, where mostly Catholic German-Bohemian immigrants began settling in the late 1800s. These immigrants kept and raised gaggles of geese, which wandered freely throughout the neighborhood and fed along the banks of the river.

The beer pours golden like autumn grain in the evening sun. There is a tall, thick white head that is a bit fizzy. The aroma is coriander over toasted grain. The taste follows the aroma. The coriander is obvious, but not in-your-face or overbearing. The salt is also present, but subtle, and you can feel its presence as much as taste it. The beer leaves a nice, tingling fizz on the tongue. This is a good summer refresher beer.
