The Pretty Things Beer and Ale Project is in Westport, Massachusetts (according to the bottle, the website says Somerville.) Pretty Things are gypsy or tenant brewers. They do not have their own brewery, but rather go to an established brewery, use the equipment to brew their beer, then clear out again. This triple comes in at 8.5% ABV. I gotta say, I love the whimsical label art, although on a beer bottle, it reminds me of a children's book.
The beer pours a hazy, yet glowing, yellow, yellow golden. There is a tall half-inch of thick, creamy, foamy white head that leaves a medium amount of sticky lacing down the glass. The aroma is yeasty, fruity and tart, citrus, lemony, with a touch of estery banana. The taste is yeasty, bready, the inside of fresh french bread, fruity, mostly lemony, a touch of earthy woodiness and banana. The finish is bitter and bracingly dry, a bit of fresh sawn pine wood. The beer drinks smooth and easy for its intense flavor and relatively high alcohol. I often don't like yeast forward beers, but this one is so well done, it works for me.
