Philadelphia Brewing Fleur de Lehigh
The Philadelphia Brewing Company is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fleur de Lehigh is an unfiltered golden ale brewed with spices, namely ginger, lemon grass, rose hips, cardamon and rhubarb. According to the bottle: " We create Fleur de Lehigh in the spirit of a new season. Spring is a time of warmth, blossoms and memories of Shibe Park, where Philadelphians once celebrated the annual rebirth of baseball season." Shibe Park was apparently on Lehigh Street (thus the name of the beer) and later known as Connie Mack Stadium. Its last game was in 1970. Its first game was in 1909. The Phillies moved to Veterans Stadium in 1971. I remember seeing Phillies games at Veterans in the late 1970's and early 1980's.
This 4.75% ABV beer pours a very hazy dark golden and orange in color. There is a very large, billowing head of white foam. The aroma is spices galore, with the rose hips and rhubarb first showing up, then the ginger and cardamon, with the lemongrass the most subtle in the aroma. All the spices sit in a base of zesty yeastiness. The taste is as spicy as herbal tea, this time with the lemongrass and ginger taking the lead, the cardomon still in the middle, and the rose hips and rhubarb showing up on the finish. The zesty yeast still underpins everything in the taste as well. This is one of the most well-done spiced beers I have tried. This would be great with spicy Thai cuisine.
