Featuring a "baba" black sheep, this beer is certified organic. The beer pours pitch black with a tall half-inch of light brown head, foamy, thick and creamy. There are sedimentary layers of lacing as the beer is consumed. The aroma is dark roasted malt, hints of coffee and smoke. The taste is deep, rich, dark roasted malt, coffee, with the perfect whisper of fruity, floral hops on the end to brighten the finish. So often that is where dark beers go wrong, too tart or sour on the end, not in proportion to the main flavors. This one gets it just right. The aftertaste follows the dark roasted flavors. This is an excellent black lager, better than a lot of purported porters.
