Samuel Adams Dark Depths Baltic IPA

Samuel Adams beers are from the Boston Beer Company of Boston, one of the grandaddies of the craft beer movement.  This is part of a series of more limited release Single Batch Collection they are doing.

This 7.6% ABV beer pours black in color, with the darkest garnet around the edges when held to the light.  There is a half-inch of brown creamy foam.  The aroma is dark roasted malt, some sweetness, and aromatic hops.  The overall effect is like a dark, sweet and aromatic cigar before lighting.  The taste follows the aroma, with a second wave of coffee, almost chicory coffee, and a bitter and dry finish, with an aftertaste that has the sting like sucking on a fragrant and unlit strong cigar.
