Brewer's Cave Toasted Black Barley Ale

This is from the Blue Diamond Brewing company, contract brewed by Cold Springs Brewing Co. in Cold Springs, MN.

This beer pours dark brown with ruby tint, mostly opaque except around the edges.  There is a small off-white head that leaves medium lacing down the glass.  The aroma is roasted, toasted, slightly nutty malt, clean and bright, with just a hint of caramel sweetness.  The taste is caramel, roasted malt, with a slightly burnt edge to it.  The mouthfeel is light for the flavor.  The aftertaste is a nice roasted and nutty malt.  It is too bad the initial taste is not more like the aftertaste.  They do start to meld together as the beer is consumed.
