This is from the Brouwerij Van Steenberge in Ertvelde, Belgium.
This beer is a whopping 10.5% ABV. It pours a dark brown, like very dark tea, with hints of ruby. It is barely translucent. It has a massive tower of bubbling, cauldron boiling, foamy head that is light brown in color. It bubbles down to the consistency of sea foam and leaves thick and sticky lacing of a medium density. The aroma is fruity, dark plums and cherries, spices, and a touch of yeast. The taste is very fruity, lots of dark cherry, on a base of dark caramel maltiness. There is an astringent oakiness in the finish. It drinks intensely flavorful without being heavy in the mouth. The alcohol provides a subtle warming effect without being overbearing. This is a really excellent Belgian ale.
