Philadelphia Brewing Company - Kenzinger; Newbold IPA; Pennsylvania Pale Ale; Joe Coffee Porter

The Philadelphia Brewing Company is in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Kenzinger – great label design, retro and appealing to me. Everything about this said to me it was going to be a lager. Poured with a big foamy head, golden honey in color and cloudy. Turns out this must be an unfiltered wheat beer. Not my favorite style. All I could taste was sour fruit of the yeast. This beer was not to my liking. From the bottle: “ This crisp, light bodied golden beer is the very definition of refreshment. The combination of premium German pilsner malts and American grown hops aims to please your taste buds and satisfy your thirst. Get some!”

Newbold IPA - This pours a cloudy dark golden honey color.  It is unfiltered.  It pours with a massive, thick, foamy head.  Aroma of yeast.  This is crisply and astringently dry.  This is a very starched dress shirt of a beer.  It is not an IPA in the citrusy American style.  This is more like a Belgian IPA or even almost like a Duvel.  The yeast is not overpowering.  This beer is interesting, it could grow on a person.

Pennsylvania Pale Ale - Pours a brilliant copper color, and the aroma is redolent of citrus and tropical fruit hops.  The flavor is hop forward with lots of citrus and fruit and a dash of pine, with just enough malt in the background to keep this from falling totally out of balance.  It finishes bitter and dry.

Joe Coffee Porter - Brewed with locally-roasted fair trade coffee.  This beer pours dark black in color with a creamy head that laces the glass.  The aroma is dark, roasted and dominated by coffee.  The taste is of coffee, dark, rich, creamy, with a hint of sweetness and just a bit of a tart note from hops, yeast or both.  If you like coffee, you will like this porter.
