Ommegang Game of Thrones Valar Morghulis Dubbel Ale

This 8.0% ABV dubbel ale is from the Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, New York. Ommegang is part of the Duvel family, and is essentially a Belgian brewery plopped down in New York State. It is one of their special releases tied to the HBO television series Game of Thrones. This is the fourth release and features the coin and the saying in High Valyrian meaning all men must die that when spoken guarantees you assistance from any person from Braavos.

The beer pours a medium dark brown in color. There is a tall, ragged, foamy head of light beige that fairly quickly bubbles down to almost nothing. The aroma is tangy yeast, malty, sweet, fruity, plums, caramel, toffee, darkened sugar, yams. The taste follows the aromas, lots of malty notes of sweet and dark fruits. The beer drinks smooth, and with the fine tingling of carbonation from bottle conditioning. The finish is tangy and mildly bitter. This just isn’t a very exciting beer for me.
