Shiner Bohemian Black Lager

Shiner beers come from the Spoetzel Brewery in Shiner, Texas (pop. 2,070). This is a 4.9% ABV black lager that was first done in 2007 and was anniversary beer 97.

The beer pours mahogany in color, deep ruby when held to the light. There is a short and short-lived head of light tan foam. The aroma is dark roasted malt, char, with a mineral tang, all evident, but not intense. The taste follows the aromas, light, but still lots of good char notes, a touch of coffee, and that mineral tang finish you might find in a stout or porter. It is well carbonated and easy to drink. This makes a nice black lager.
