Newcastle Cabbie Black Ale

The latest of the Limited Edition releases from Newcastle, this is a 4.2% ABV black ale (they appear to no longer have a separate website, only a Facebook page, sad). Due to acquisitions and consolidations, Newcastle is sadly no longer actually brewed in Newcastle, England, but rather at Caledonian Breweries in Edinburgh, Scotland.

The beer pours dark chestnut to light mahogany in color with tints of garnet. There is a short head of creamy off-white foam. The aroma is dark roasted malt, coffee with cream and sugar, chocolate, and that mineral tang found in Newcastle beers. The taste follows the aromas directly. It is very light bodied, perhaps its only drawback, I could stand a little more body with all that flavor. Still, a nice, tasty and pleasant easy drinker.
