Fruh Kolsch

This is a 4.8% ABV kolsch beer from Hofbrau Fruh in Cologne, Germany. Kolsch is a top-fermented local beer style from Cologne (Koln), Germany. While it shares many characteristics of a lager, it is actually an ale that is made differently (not using cold and bottom fermenting lager yeast) and is characterized by a lightly fruity yeast note.

The beer pours a pale yellow and golden in color, highly carbonated, almost champagne-like. There is a tall head of pure white foam. The aroma is fruity, apples and plums, fresh straw, and lightly toasted golden grain. The taste follows the aromas directly, mixing fruit, grain and straw. It is lightly bitter, grassy, fairly dry, and crisply and refreshingly carbonated.
