Three Floyds Dreadnaught Imperial IPA

Three Floyds Brewing Company is out of Munster, Indiana. This is a 9.5% ABV Imperial India Pale Ale with 100 IBU's.

The beer pours a dark honey golden with tones of orange, copper and amber.  There is a generous foamy, ragged head that is off-white in color.  The head leaves distinct layers of lacing that are relatively clear in between.  The aroma is hop forward, but on a solid malt base, big, round, lots of orange, melons, some overripe tropical fruit.  The taste follows the aromas, big, with lots of overripe tropical fruit and orange, citrus rinds.  There is a solid caramel malt base. The beer is round and smooth in the mouth, with a dry and moderately bitter finish, fighting with the malty sweetness. It is softly carbonated, with just a sting, but not to the detriment of its smoothness.  This is a very solid imperial IPA. As good as it is out of a fresh bottle, you should try it on tap at the brewpub, where it is five out of five stars!
