Surly Wet

This is a 7.5% ABV wet-hop India pale ale from Surly Brewing Company of Brooklyn Center, Minnesota (in the process of building a new brewery in Minneapolis). It is brewed with freshly harvested hops that are only days old and have not been dried.

2011 - The beer pours an orange-brass-copper in color with a half-inch of creamy off-white foam.  The aroma is pungent pine, resinous, with comparatively lighter citrus, melon and tropical fruit.  The fruit tastes come to the fore in the flavor, there is a solid malt base, and the finish is bracingly bitter.  The aftertaste is both bitter (with some pine coming through) and flavorful with lingering fruit.  A very, very nice IPA!

2013 - Golden and honey golden with an orange tint. There is over an inch of pure, thick, foamy white head. The aroma is tangy, citrusy, zesty, light tropical fruit. The taste is citrus fruit, tea with lemon, tangy, a bit spicy, a touch floral, along with a solid, crackery malt base.  The finish is intensely bitter, with grapefruit rind. Good, but I liked the more piney version of a couple years ago better.

2018 - Now 6.1% ABV, the beer pours a deep and dark golden, lightly hazed. There is a tall, thick, foamy head of white. The aroma is full of fruit, citrus, light tropical, with a bit of dank and pine. The tastes follows the aromas, lots of light, bright, citrus, adding in some peach, a bit of dank, and a bitter, piney finish. The beer drinks airy and soft.
