Founders All Day IPA

This 4.7% ABV Session Ale is from the Founders Brewing Company of Grand Rapids, Michigan. 

The beer pours a dark honey golden with an orange tint. There is a short head of white foam. The aroma is hop forward, tropical fruit, citrus, mandarin orange, a touch of grapefruit rind. The taste follows the aromas directly, lots of citrus and tropical fruit, followed by a wave of bitter and astringent grapefruit. The malt is just enough to support all these hops, but does not intrude or weigh the beer down. Excellent.

Trying again in 2017: Now listed as 4.7% ABV, the beer pours an apricot tinged golden. There is a tall, billowing, thick, head of white foam. The aroma is citrus and tropical over toasted grain. The taste follows the aromas to a dry finish, lightly bitter. The beer drinks exceptionally easy, light and smooth, with soft carbonation.
