Rogue Pumpkin Patch Ale

This is part of the Chatoe Rogue First Growth series of beers from Rogue Ales of Newport Oregon. These beers feature ingredients grown on Rogue farms. The spices in this pumpkin ale include ginger, cloves, vanilla bean, cinnamon, cardamom, and nutmeg.

The beer pours a dark mahogany in color with a ruby tint. There is a tall, but quickly dissipating, head of light brown foam. The aroma is spices all around, each spice is evident at some point, they merge into an almost root beer like whole. Notes of pumpkin and pumpkin pie are evident. The taste is predominantly spices, a touch of pumpkin pie, some dark roasted malt, fairly bitter in effect for only 25 IBU's. It comes across a little too heavy on the cloves for me. Those looking for a pumpkin beer, note that this one is as much about the spices as the pumpkin.
