Half Acre Akari Shogun

This is a 5.5% ABV American wheat ale from the Half Acre Beer Company of Chicago, Illinois. Most of their beers are canned, this is a rare bottled offering.

The beer pours a cloudy dark golden and pale, dirty orange in color. There is a short head of white foam. The aroma is hop forward, lots of juicy tropical fruit, melon, citrus, a hint of pine sap, and a light toasted wheat. The taste follows the aromas directly with lots of hop fruit over light toasted wheat, and with a surprisingly bitter finish. It is nicely carbonated, just a tad watery in the mouth, and very dry on the end. The finish is bitter and astringent grapefruit peel. As the mouth becomes accustomed to the vibrant hops in this beer, the toasted wheat begins to come forth and linger in the aftertaste. This may be the American wheat beer for hop heads!
