Baraboo Red Granite Lager

Baraboo Beers are a proprietary brand of the Hy-Vee chain of Midwestern supermarkets.  The beers are contract brewed by Stevens Point Brewery in Stevens Point, Wisconsin.

This Vienna-style lager pours a dark golden to amber in color.  There is a short head of somewhat creamy off-white foam.  The aroma is malty, light caramel, slightly fruity.  The taste is malty, very lightly toasted, very lightly nutty, very lightly caramel, with a quick, quite bitter finish.  It has just the right amount of moderate carbonation for the style.  This is not objectionable in any way, neither is it exciting in any way.  It is solidly in the middle.

And again in 2017: The beer pours a reddish dark amber and brown. There is an inch of light tan foaming head. The aroma is malty, caramel and plums, with a sweet grassiness. The taste follows the aromas, malt, caramel and toffee, fruit, but with a mostly dry finish that is light on the bitterness. The beer drinks easy, with a bit of crispness.
