Jolly Pumpkin Oro de Calabaza

Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales is in Dexter, Michigan.

This is a 8.0% ABV golden ale in the Franco-Belgian style, aged in oak barrels and refermented in the bottle (bottle conditioned).  This is batch 852, bottled 11-22-2011.  The beer pours a slightly hazy, yet very bright golden in color.  There is essentially no head (most bottle conditioned beers I have tasted have had substantial carbonation and/or head).  The aroma is predominantly tart, sour, with some earthiness and oakiness.  The taste follows the aromas, mostly sour and tart from the wild yeasts, but with some earth and wood.  The finish is peppery, spicy, dry, and slightly bitter.  Don't be fooled, this is a sour golden ale, and if you have not developed a taste for sour beers, you best avoid it.
