Sheaf Stout

This 5.7% ABV stout is brewed and bottled by Carlton & United Beverages Limited, South Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.

I don't recall seeing this beer any other places in the United States, but for some reason it is ubiquitous in the Twin Cities area, which is where I picked up this bottle.

The beer pours pure black with a quarter to half inch of light brown creamy/foamy head that leaves medium lacing down the glass.  The aroma is dark roasted malt, some sweetness, with a smokey edge that imparts a hint of Scotch whisky.  The taste is dark roasted malt, a touch of coffee, slightly sweet but with a dry finish.  There is a touch of malt vinegar.  There is just the right amount of carbonation for the flavor.  This is a very drinkable and enjoyable stout.
