Free State Oatmeal Stout

This eponymous oatmeal stout is from the Free State Brewing Company of Lawrence, Kansas, brewing since 1989.

The beer pours dark black and ruby in color. There is a tall, thick, mostly creamy head of beige foam. The aroma is dark roasted malts, light char, a bit of dark fruits. The taste hits all the same notes as the aromas. The beer drinks round, smooth, and with a big tingle of carbonation. The finish is dry, lightly bitter, and with a mineral tang. This beer drinks great, but could use a bit more assertive flavor.
