Redhook Out of Your Gourd Pumpkin Porter

This 5.8% ABV fall seasonal is from the Redhook Brewery from Portland, Oregon and also brewing in Woodinville, Washington and Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It is brewed with pumpkin, spices and maple syrup.

The beer pours black in appearance, a very dark mahogany, translucent only around the edges, if held to the light. There is a short and short lived head of light tan head. The aroma is spices, light and sweet pumpkin, some roasted malt, giving the overall effect of a spiced cola. The taste follows the aromas quite directly, but gives more dark roasted malt flavors at the end. The beer drinks very light, if it has a problem it is being too watery for the many flavors. While it has sweet notes, it is fairly dry and moderately bitter on the end. Fine, but not something I would want to drink much of.
